My theory: Aria Montgomery

• There’s basically a whole storyline about Aria, cameras and photographs - there’s nothing pointless in PLL.

In the premiere of S3 Aria explains some so thought ‘irrelevant’ story about photography. 

However this may not seem so irrelevant when it’s later revealed A has some hidden photography skills of their own!

• A didn’t start stalking the four girls until right when Aria returned to Iceland (Note: I realise that A also stalked Alison before she died but I’m sure it would have been just as easy for Aria to stalk Ali as well.)
• Between the lake scene someone plays a prank and orders something of which Noel is allergic to.

It is later revealed that the prank is Aria’s favourite. 

• Aria seems to be the one that is almost always there comforting the girls, and learning their secrets.
• In the Q&A with A, A is asked who he thinks is the missing link, to which he responds “I’m more interested in the strongest liar.” In Season 2 Episode 2 “Father Knows Best”, Aria is pointed out as the best liar by all her friends.

• When Noel was about to tell the principal about her and Ezra’s relationship , thats when he was framed for stealing SAT’s answers . ‘A’ saved their relationship and made sure Noel was gone so he couldn’t do anything to tattle 

• Some notes from A are on a type-writer. Ezra has a typewriter. Aria has access to Ezra’s apartment and is well aware of it.

Not to forget that a certain A message from a type-writer was about Byron’s affair. We know that Aria was scared to tell her Mam face-to-face, this could of saved her a hell of a lot of courage

• This has been mentioned before, but she is the only one that hasn’t come close to dying directly because of A. (then came along halloween) As this point does no longer apply I had to replace it with a what-if. In 3x13 when Aria finally got what was coming to her - the man and woman have a conversation which includes the man saying “you lied to me” & “i can’t do this”…maybe it wasn’t supposed to be Aria in the box and they’d made a mistake OR this other option may seem far-fetched but isn’t everything in this show? Also in the Halloween episode A left things behind, like a trail that the girls could follow straight towards Aria. Like her purse and necklace and the locked door, ect. Then suddenly Garrett is also in the box with her too, but wasn’t he still talking to Spencer when she got “kidnapped”? Maybe the rest of the A-Team/Aria knew that they would find her and now they think A tried to kill her, too so she is not suspected? Let’s be real… A is crazy and if they want someone dead, they die.

• Mona refers to Aria as “Big A”. As we know Mona and the rest of the girls never got along so why would Mona feel the need or want to talk to Aria. As we know Mona is also on the A-team, this is how these two could know each other more than Mona knows Spencer and Emily.

And MK said this on Twitter recently.

• Jason seemed to think Aria was suspicious due to the many pictures of her the girls found in his shed.
• Aside from Aria, all of the girls have had dreams about Ali coming to them.
• She told Hanna’s mam that she was A.

• Aria was the last one to have “Vivian Darkbloom”s red coat, and Mona was visited by an unidentifiable person wearing that same coat. 

• A hasn’t messed with Aria and Ezra’s relationship, when it is clearly the easiest one to destroy…
• Aria wasn’t in the doll shop when the other three heard the Alison doll chanting “follow me, end up like me.” 
• Although we know it’s Mona’s infamous Aria line was a code for ”MAYA KNEW” it could still have a hidden meaning.

• Aria vandalized her dad’s office, she is clearly capable of angry and irrational decisions.

• In the doll shop, when the little boy is asked who was after Ali, he says someone with ‘long dark hair’ like Aria’s. Right after the boy says this, the old woman that owns the shop immediately tells him to be quiet.
• Also in the episode “unmAsked”, Aria and Ezra are actually the only two people being shown having their masks taken off. Additionally, Aria is at the ball texting and talking to someone that the viewers can’t see.

• Aria once said, “sometimes you have to lie to your friends.”

• When talking about A in the episode “unmAsked”, Spencer says “We need to look at this A situation with a pair of fresh eyes.” Later in the episode, during the Ezra&Aria car/rain/kiss scene, the song playing in the background is titled “Fresh Pair of Eyes.” 
• Aria is the one ‘sshh’ing in the title sequence.

• When Duncan takes Aria into the plane to talk about Alison, Duncan mentions that Alison was afraid of a friend. Right after this Aria loses control of the plane. 
• When talking to Melissa, Aria tells her that her favorite ice cream flavor is toffee. And then later, she makes a profile for her mom on an online dating website and the description is “hot mama loves to tango.” At the end of the episode Mona mentions “toffee tango lipstick.” 
• In this photo, Aria is wearing handcuffs around her ankles.

• Aria is the only one that left for a year, and then at the end of the first episode, the text from A reads “I’m back bitches. And I know everything.” 
• It’s weird how there’s always interactions or concerns between Aria&Mona yet they’ve never really spoke. Or so we think

• Anything that A has ever told Aria to do eventually benefited her in the long run, for example, blackmailing her into sending Jackie away. That always seemed suspicious to me. 
• Aria wore a necklace with an “A” on it.
• In 2x25 “unmAsked”, while Spencer and Mona are in A’s lair Spencer looks at the four dolls based on the girls. The girls are all dressed pretty while the Aria doll is wearing a black hoodie and jeans.

• The producers of PLL said that A would be seen wearing a black swan dress at the ball. 

• Marlene King said there’s a reason for Aria’s dress pattern. You see her in RED&BLACK stripes in S2 premiere. S2 Finale and the halloween episode. We all know Red and Black means - ATeam colours.

• Halloween episode Aria writes the last A letter of her name very differently and specifically from the first A… Just like all the other A messages. With a slanted line through the middle. 

 

• The Great Gatsby is referenced to a lot in PLL. It’s even a book Ezra reads to his English class. Also Aria’s costume is Daisy from the book The Great Gatsby. Despite the character being all about beauty and charm, Daisy is merely a selfish, shallow, and in fact, hurtful, woman. Daisy’s character is built with associations of light, purity, and innocence, when all is said and done, she is the opposite from what she presents herself to be.

• Who the hell drinks alcohol from a straw? Aria does.

• And I can hear you all saying “but A has to be 21 to be drinking it public” … let’s go way back - Ali provided the girls with fake I.D’s.
• She has the key last from Ezra’s ”dead neighbour” which is the EXACT same key as the A-Team. A key coming from a circle. Maybe because she knows there’s nobody living there anymore that’s where the “A’S LAIR” is held at. Far-fetched, I know.
